News from the New Stadium

In their second pre-season friendly last Saturday Holyhead Hotspur ran up an impressive 4-2 success at Sheffield United’s training complex against the championship side under 19 squad. Despite the Bramall Lane team carrying the famous ‘Blades’ logo instead it was Hotspur who boasted the ‘cutting edge’ running up a 1-4 lead at the break. The hosts went in front early on but goals from Dean Garmey, Kenleigh Owen (pen), Mike Kelly and Mel McGinness gave the visitors and the fine away support an enjoyable half time Via the commanding shoreline. Despite the Yorkshire side pulling a goal back in the second period manager Campbell Harrison and assistant Darren Garmey were well pleased with the performance.

The trip followed on from the previous Tuesday evening at Conwy Borough when the first half again saw the best of the Holy Islanders notching all three goals via a brace from the lively Mel McGinness and a gem from trialist Alex Boss who was most impressive. Also on view were new signings Tomos Clark and John Littlemore together with Reece Brown with all three showing they could be an asset in 2017/18.

Following the two excellent performances in the above warm-ups Hotspur will want to continue the good build-up to the start of the league campaign on August 12th. Our next home fixture is against Welsh National League side Brickfield (from the Wrexham area) who come calling at the New Stadium this coming Saturday (July 22nd). The first team will kick-off at 12:30 with Hotspur Reserves and their Brickfield counterparts beginning at 3pm.
