News from the New Stadium

Taking over from Andy Batsford and John Batson who did a fine job with the reserve side will be Mike ‘Cheds’ Kelly who until now has been a regular feature in the first team for numerous years (indeed he seems to have been around for ever!) a fine player and a manager’s dream with the word ‘reliable’ a key factor in this day and age. Mike who will be undertaking an FAW ‘C’ coaching course in August has been awarded a richly deserved Testimonial match to be held at the Hotspur New Stadium venue on Saturday July 7th 3pm kick off against a Sheffield United X1.

Keeping the appointing ‘within theme’ going he will be assisted by striker Martin Mc Clymont a Yorkshire man who has settled in the area and will be an asset to the reserve set up.

When asked about the appointment Mike said ‘Firstly I would like to thank the Hotspur committee for handing me the opportunity of my first management role within Holyhead Hotspur, a club that I love so much.

I am extremely excited about working with, and developing the next generation of local talent. I aim to nurture the quality young players and ready them for the First team.

I have gone through the whole club structure as a player, from youth to senior. I will look to pass onto them my experience and knowledge in the hope that they can break into and establish themselves as first team players in the coming years.

For many years now, the club has relied on our own home grown talented youngsters, and it is integral to the success of the club that the production keeps producing. Not only is it important to keep churning out players, but that the quality of these players need to increase in line with the quality of the Cymru Alliance. This was the main draw for me. My players will have one goal, and that will be to break into the first team and stay there.

I, along with my 2 assistants, have a great relationship with Daz & Nick, so of course I am looking forward to working with them. We have already spoke in great length with them, and outlined our plans for going forward. We believe we have come up with a structure, that not only provides us with a platform to succeed, but top succeed while operating in line with our ethos of developing our own.

This brings me nicely onto my management team. Martin McClymont & Tom Scott will be my Assistants, who will still be involved in a playing capacity to aid the youngster’s development. I hold them both in high regard as players but most importantly as individuals. Tom is someone that has been around the reserve set up for over 10 years and will not only bring tactical input, but he will be a great character in the dressing room. Martin, again has been around the reserve and first team for the past 10 years and is keen to get going.

Finally, I would like thank Andy Batsford and John Batson for the work they did with the team last season. They’ve done a marvellous job and there wouldn’t be a side for us to take over if it wasn’t for Johns hard work over the last 4 months.

Heres to the future, #THISISOURCLUB’
