News from the New Stadium

Following the 4 – 1 success over Sheffield United to celebrate Mike Kelly’s Testimonial in Holyhead Hotspur’s first pre season work out, Darren Garmey’s new charges continued their preparations for the new season with two more good outings and in convincing style took care of Llandudno FC under 19’s and more recently three goals to the good at nearby Bodedern.

Hotspur were due to host Llanberis at the New Stadium on Friday night (20th July) but this match was postponed, while the annual fixture at Llanrug United takes place on Tuesday next July 24th with a 7pm kick off and is Hotspur’s next port of call.

Garmey’s men were too good for the spirited youth side of Llanduudno celebrating a ‘high fives’ via goals from Jamie Roberts (a brace) and one each from Kenleigh Owen, Harry Galleotti and John Littlemore.

The most recent pre season game at nearby Bodedern last Tuesday evening was a good test for both teams with Hotspur looking particularly sharp and lively which augers well for the tough season ahead in the last season of the Huws Gray Alliance league (before it becomes in season 2019/20 Conference North) as a number of positives emerged. The Holy Islanders were on top for most of the game and took the lead via Chris Jones on 15 minutes and Dean Garmey finished off a smart move just before vthe break. Carl Jones saved well on a couple of occasions but John Littlemore wrapped it up for a 0 – 3 win on 55 minutes for a very good work out which will have put manager Darren Garmey and his assistant Nick Dumbarton in god heart as the team builds towards the Huws Gray Alliance opening game at Flint Town United on August 11th before hosting Gresford Athletic a week later on the 18th with a 2.30pm kick off.
