News from the New Stadium

Holyhead Hotspur’s build up to the new campaign in the fourth pre season friendly al Llanrug United was overshadowed by a serious foot injury to stand in goalkeeper former Wycombe Wanderers, Chester and Llandudno custodian Alex Lynch mid way through the first half which saw him sustain what looked like a broken bone in his foot. Proceedings were held up for an hour as an Air Ambulance and road assistance arrived on the scene and eventually took him to Ysbyty Gwynedd for assessment.

Alex Lynch in between clubs was assisting Holyhead Hotspur to keep himself fit for the new season with Carl Jones unavailable and all at Hotspur wish Alex well in his recovery.

The game up to what looked like an innocuous incident had seen the hosts go close via James Phillips while Luke Mc Kendrick for Darren Garmey’s side twice was even closer to giving the Holy Islanders the lead in what looked a lively encounter.

When play resumed following the unfortunate injury to Lynch it was decided to play just the second half and although just as competitive, as a game between these two clubs invariably is, it turned out to be another good test with Hotspur having the better chances to win the game.

Full back David Williams shot just over the bar at the dressing room end on the resumption of play followed by Caio Hywel putting Mc Kendrick through which brought a great finger tip save from home keeper Dylan Roberts. A header by returning prodigal son Curt Williams was just over while Cory Jones did the same from point blank range again from a header. Just before the end of the reduced pre season warm up Curt Williams tested Roberts low down but the talented keeper saved the strike at his left hand post.

Despite not a full game manager Darren Garmey and assistant Nick Dumbarton will have been impressed and satisfied so far with the build up to first match at Flint Town United on August 11th especially when all the players will be available for selection.

Mike Kelly’s Hotspur reserve side who will operate in the Anglesey League the coming season had another excellent result in winning 1 – 0 at Llanerchymedd in their own pre season friendly.

Both squads are looking strong for the forthcoming season and this augers well for Hotspur.
