HOLYHEAD HOTSPUR kept building up their points total in the league after beating Llanrug United 2-1 at home in last Wednesdays Welsh Alliance Division One clash.
The Harbourmen should have been well out of sight before the visitors claimed a late consolation through Carl Griffiths.
Mike Edwards put Hotspur ahead on 10 minutes when he took on the Rug defence on the right and powered home from the acutest of angles.
Asa Thomas added a second when he received an Edwards pass with his back to goal and scored with a skilful back-flick.
Edwards, Kenleigh Owen and McGinness all went close to adding to the host teams rally before the break.
In the second stanza Hotspur fluffed further opportunities and Llanrug threw themselves an unexpected lifeline on 80 minutes.
Keeper Heald raced out to clear from the onrushing Rhys Roberts, but the ball fell to Griffiths who fired into the net.
This set up an anxious last few minutes for the home supporters as Llanrug pushed for a second, but Holyhead could also have added a third.
